Staggies slaughtered by dazzling Dons

Aberdeen           4

Scorers Ross County: Schalk (76, 84) Aberdeen: Maclean (27, 65) Rooney (31 pen 35)

THREE goals in a devastating eight minute spell in the first half saw Aberdeen thump Ross County as pressure grows on Owen Coyle whose side have not won in 12 games.

The Staggies started brightly when Chris Eagles had an early chance to give Ross County the lead when he was allowed to burst forward from midfield and launched a powerful low drive which went inches past the right hand post from 20 yards.

They came closer when Harry Souttar beat the Aberdeen defence at a Davis Keillor-Dunn corner to launch a powerful header towards goal forcing a fine save from Danny Rogers before the ball was punted away from danger.

Aberdeen responded when Gary Mackay-Steven skipped his way past Jason Naismith wing and sending Andrew Considine down the left wing whose cross into the six yard box was inches away from finding Niall McGinn’s foot for a tap-in.

However the Dons killed off the game with three goals in the space of eight minutes. They took the lead after Considine controlled the ball on the left wing and passed to Ryan Christie in the box. He set up Kenny Maclean whose powerful shot from 15 yards deflected off Liam Fontaine past Scott Fox into the back of the net.

Three minutes later Aberdeen were awarded a penalty when after great interplay with Niall McGinn in the box Christie was brought down by Tim Chow. Rooney stepped up to the spot and sent Fox the other way as he nestled the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Ross County’s defence was in meltdown and they conceded a third four minutes later when Fontaine and Ross Draper were caught unaware by Niall McGinn’s cross from the left wing to allow a rampaging Rooney to storm in between them and score from six yards.

The Staggies evening was summed up midway through the second half when goalkeeper Fox while in possession of the ball in his own box did not notice McLean running towards him who then nicked the ball from his feet and ran round him before firing into the net.

County did pull one back when Craig Curran's flick into the box found Alex Schalk who unchallenged from six yards fired past Danny Rogers.

Curran played provider again when another flick on got the better of the Aberdeen defence and found  Schalk onside who drove into the box and fired a low drive past Rogers for his second goal of the night to give County hope six minutes from time.
