HUNDREDS of schoolchildren in Ross-shire are enjoying a long weekend today after secondaries and primaries fell foul of the weather.

Around 2000 pupils at schools across the Highland Council area are affected by closures put down to bad weather following snowfall across the region.

Some schools were hoping to open later in the day.

Amongst those affected in Ross-shire are Gairloch High School, Lochcarron Primary and Strathcarron.

On the Black Isle, Cromarty Primary is closed due to a burst water pipe which has flooded the extension.

A list of closures can be found on Highland Council's website at https://highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures
