A NEW fund for community groups in Contin is being provided by EDF Energy Renewables (EDF ER), linked to its Corriemoillie wind farm.
EDF ER has been assisted in the set-up by independent grant-making body Foundation Scotland. A panel of seven local people from the Contin area has been recruited and trained, and will decide on which awards are made from the fund.
The fund will have £13,566 for distribution in its first year and will be managed by Foundation Scotland. It is open to groups operating in the Contin Community Council area, including Jamestown and Tarves. There will be one round of awards in 2017, and two rounds held in subsequent years. The closing date for the first round of applications is September 11, with decisions to be made on November 13.
The fund is also providing money to Contin Community Council to allow it to run a micro-grant scheme up to £250 for activity by informal groups or individuals locally.
Nick Bradford, head of asset management at EDF Energy Renewables said: “We are pleased that the Contin Community Fund is now open for applications. Local groups can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,000 to carry out charitable activity locally. We hope the money will help groups play a role in making Contin a better place to live and work.”
