Ross County interim manager Don Cowie has confirmed that midfielder Max Sheaf will miss the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old, who has been a regular face in the starting line-up since the turn of the year, picked up a muscle injury at the club’s training camp in Spain last week.

It is significant enough that Sheaf will play no further part in the Staggies’ bid to avoid a relegation play-off.

There was better news as far as Josh Reid is concerned, with the wing back having returned to full training ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Livingston.

Will Nightingale also has a chance of playing again before the summer, having been rehabbing his injury at parent club Wimbledon, but will not be seen this weekend.

The status of longer-term absentees, midfield duo Ross Callachan and Scott Allardice, was less certain. Cowie, though, did sound less optimistic over the chances of them featuring this season.

“Ross has had a really long period out,” Cowie said.

“We’re hopeful we can maybe see him, but at the same time we’ve got to take account of how long he has been out.

“I don’t think we will see Scott Allardice this season.”
