One of the final battles of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion will be explored in a talk in Tain next week.

The Battle of Littleferry, which took place in Golspie and Littleferry the day before the Battle of Culloden, will be the subject when Tain and Easter Ross Civic Trust host their latest talk on Tuesday evening.

Speaker Patrick Marriott will give his talk on the Sutherland battle in the Clan Ross Room at the Royal Hotel at 7.30pm.

A spokesperson for the trust said: "Two days before the battle of Culloden, Bonnie Prince Charlie ordered his northern forces back to Inverness. The Cromartie Regiment left the captured Dunrobin Castle the following day, marching towards Littleferry.

"They were attacked and defeated in Golspie and Littleferry by the local militia, loyal to the king.

"This is the story of the battle seen from a military perspective by Major General Patrick Marriott."

The event is free for members and £5 for non-members. Tea and coffee will be served.
