Community councils the length and breadth of the country are experiencing the same problems with public representation. Avoch is not so badly effected as they have the Avoch Amenities Association to fall back on and in fact, it's over-represented by having both.
When I was the administrator of the Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council I was instrumental in organising, during my term, a combined Avoch and Killen and Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest. This was never continued and now may be the time to address the possibility of an amalgamation of the two community councils to serve the three settlements.
It would be much better than having no representation at all in the village.
The combined Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council has worked very well over the years.
In view of the fact that the new Ward system is not working terribly well, its absolutely essential that the Avoch area is publicly represented at this level as the community councils are statutory consultees in terms of planning, a very important aspect of representation within our communities.
Morris M Downie, Fortrose.
