Starting next week, Linda Bailey will launch a regular column which not only offers help, advice and encouragement but also a free personalised regime for two lucky readers.
Linda, who is based on the Black Isle, is offering free training to two readers prepared to commit to a 12-week programme specifically tailored to their own needs, regardless of their level of fitness or weight when they start.
The Ross-shire Journal will follow the progress of the selected candidates into the new year and report back on how they are getting on. Linda, an active and enthusiastic advocate of the benefits of exercise, is already well-known to many folk in the area —including Journal editor Hector Mackenzie who has also accepted her "shape up" challenge.
Said Linda, "Starting an exercise program can be a daunting task; it's a lot of hard work and it can be difficult to get into the proper mind set, especially with the amount of conflicting information around, but with the right help, advice and motivation it could be one of the best things you could do for your health.
"With your doctor's OK to exercise, physical activity can reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your balance, coordination and muscle tone, help with weight management, improve your sleep habits, self-esteem and mental health.
"As my mother would say 'an all round good egg!'"
