Sir — After attending Scottish Natural Heritage's drop-in session at Garve Village Hall, (October 6), regarding their Ben Wyvis proposals and questioning why it wasn't a proper sit-down meeting with them explaining their intentions, followed by a question and answer session, I was told they considered this would be too confrontational.
In other words they are scared of the general public's opinion. Regardless of this however, it has now become clear their proposed policies will be carried out.
The sheep will be removed and the deer will be massacred.
SNH must, without question be one of the most ruthless, disjointed, inefficient bodies any government ever set loose on any country. Their policies are hugely detrimental to our way of life.
What right-thinking organisation would remove or destroy such long-standing assets as our sheep stocks or deer herds?
Just by looking at their Ben Wyvis policies, SNH's existence cannot in any way be justified — to say nothing of their deer slaughter policy on Rhum where, after 20 years of scientific monitoring, they slaughtered what could have been a valuable breeding asset for mainland deer.
On Ben Wyvis up till now, SNH allowed their shooting tenant only a minimal number of deer for shooting, stating that deer numbers were no problem whatsoever. So why now more or less total annihilation?
One of these policies must be wrong.
Could it be that every time SNH changes personnel on their different reserves, those people are allowed to change policies no matter the cost or consequence to anything or anyone?
