STAFF at Dingwall's Red Cross shop have thrown their weight behind a nationwide campaign to persuade shoppers to help tackle problems caused by the cyclone in Burma.

The shop wants local shoppers to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). It is ready to accept donations from members of the public so that the DEC can rapidly scale up its emergency response to the cyclone which hit Myanmar.

Kevin Morgan, of the Red Cross, said, "Any size of donation is welcome, no matter how big or small. Even if it's only 50p - 50p will quickly become £5 if ten people donate the same.

"So, if you're passing one of our shops and have some loose change, please pop in and make a donation. It'll only take a second."

An estimated £10 million is required to help the millions of people affected by the cyclone.
