ROSS youngsters aim to hit the right note at a major traditional music showcase this weekend after being given the honour of sharing a stage with the cream of the crop. Fèis Rois has been invited to present a youth performance at the Scots Trad Music Awards' ceremony on Saturday in the Nevis Centre, Fort William. That gives young musicians a golden opportunity to perform on the same stage as the likes of Shooglenifty, Kathleen MacInnes and the Anna Massie Band. Director Rita Hunter revealed the "great sense of excitement" at rehearsals for the showcase. She said, "We are working on a special set of tunes for the ceremony all composed by the MacDonald brothers of Glenuig. "The rehearsals are being led by one of our past participants John Somerville, and Mhairi Hall and involve 20 teenagers."
Fèis Rois won the Community Project of the Year at the 2004 Trad Awards for their groundbreaking Traditional Musicians in Schools scheme, bringing teams of traditional musicians into primary schools throughout the whole of Scotland.
