SHINTY fans were treated to a thriller at the Bught Park as Newtonmore defeated fierce local rivals Kingussie to bring home the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup.
It was a thriller from start to finish despite Newtonmore getting off to a dream start with a first strike in under a minute.
When they added a second shortly after, there was talk on the sidelines of a rout.
There was television coverage on BBC One Scotland, but a radio commentary afforded those homeward-bound from the last Highland Games of the year at Invercharron the opportunity of taking in the game as it went into extra-time.
Many times winners of the Camanachd in the past, Newtonmore had been denied possession of the trophy for a staggering 25 years.
At the close of normal time the clubs were level-pegging 3-3, and it was only in the closing seconds of extra time that Danny Macrae underlined his role as the match-winner when he completed a hat-trick of goals for a 4-3 victory. Newtonmore's second goal was credited to Steven Macdonald.
Fraser Munro, Martin Dallas and Ronald Ross were the Kingussie marksmen. Full back Norman Campbell, Newtonmore, won the Albert Smith Memorial Medal for Man of the Match.
Earlier in the day in one of two Under-14 finals, Skye won the Ken MacMaster Cup when they defeated Fort William 3-1. Scorers for Skye were Angus Grant and James Pringle, while Zoe Smith scored for the Fort.
In the other final, Milngavie and Bearsden were winners of the Development Cup as they defeated Lochcarron 3-0. Scorers were Scott Anderson, Callum Macleay and aidan Matheson.
