THE Camanachd Association and Skye Camanachd have confirmed that the 2011 Balliemore Cup final between Bute and Caberfeidh, will be played on Saturday, July 23 at Pairc nan Laoch in Portree on the Isle of Skye as part of this year's national celebration of Scotland's Islands.
Taking the final to Skye celebrates the important role Scotland's indigenous game has played in the sporting and cultural life of the island over many decades.
Ross Cowie, chairman of Skye Camanachd, said they were delighted to be hosting the final. Everyone was working hard to ensure the day is a huge success.
Archie Robertson, president of the Camanachd Association, said that the Pairc nan Laoch was an excellent venue for the final. For more than a century shinty had played an important part in the life of many Skyemen, and they were pleased the team at Scotland's Islands had supported them in taking the final to Skye.
Mr Murdo Mackay, project leader for Scotland's Islands said the Balliemore Cup is one of the flagship events for Scotland's islands' year-long calendar of over 140 events taking place across 42 islands, led by a partnership of the six local authorities with island communities.
Kyles Athletic and Kingussie are to contest the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup final. On Saturday last, Kyles qualified as a result of a 4-1 semifinal win over Glenurquhart; and Kingussie were 6-2 victors over Skye.

In midweek Caberfeidh visited Cannich, and defeated Strathglass 4-3, with Ewen Wotherspoon and Lewis Douglas scoring for Strathglass, and Blair Morrison, Craig Morrison 2 and Alan Ross, the Caberfeidh scorers.
