University golfers tee up student tourney success

THE University of the Highlands and Islands golf team has come top of the Scottish Student Sports/BUCS winter league following an away win against Robert Gordon's University.

The team which includes members from Alness, Dingwall and Fortrose has remained unbeaten, with one draw against Dundee University and five victories.

Alan Fleming, lecturer, PGA professional and team coach, said, "This is a strong squad with great team spirit. The students all play and practice regularly on the Struie Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club as part of their programme of study as well as for recreation and competition. This helps them develop a good level of consistency and competitive spirit amongst themselves."

The team are all UHI students studying on the BA (Hons) Golf Management degree at North Highland College in Dornoch. The league victory gains the UHI Golf Team promotion to the top division of Scottish Universities Golf as well as qualification for the British level of competition where they will represent UHI at a national level.
