Man dies following Cromarty Firth dinghy rescue

A MAN who was rescued from the Cromarty Firth after a dinghy overturned yesterday afternoon has died in hospital.

The 56-year-old was unresponsive when he was  taken ashore and members of the Invergordon lifeboat crew tried to revive him.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by rescue helicopter, where he later died.

The incident happened near Invergordon at about 4.30pm on Monday, September 18.

Inspector Jamie Wilson said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage. However, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

"Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time."
