TWO girls who were part of a gang who broke into a car intending to steal it in Alness had their sentences deferred for good behaviour at Tain Sheriff Court.
Tanya Stewart (18) and Mary Stewart (19), both of Windsor Place, Conon Bridge admitted on May 29 at Westford, Alness acting with others and forcing open the lockfast car with intent to steal it.
Depute fiscal Roderick Urquhart said people heard a noise outside in the early hours of the morning and saw the two girls with two young men in a car outside a house at Westford, Alness which belonged to a neighbour.
“What’s clear is the identity of the two girls in the back of the car. Clearly they were less involved than the two in the front.”
Solicitor Mike Tavendale said Tanya Stewart had been at a party with her co-accused and had consumed a fair amount to drink.
“They were offered a lift home and they went into the car.”
Mr Tavendale said it then became clear to them what was happening.
“They should have realised and distanced themselves from that. She (Tanya Stewart) put herself in a position where her behaviour was inappropriate.”
Sheriff David Sutherland deferred sentence for six months.
