A DAY of surprises was enjoyed by a Black Isle couple, who had planned to mark their 60th wedding anniversary without any fuss.
What was meant to be a quiet day for George and Jenny Bremner of Culbokie last Wednesday turned out to be busy one, when Lord Lieutenant Janet Bowen turned up unexpectedly with a card of congratulations from the Queen on the day of their Diamond Wedding.
They were also visited by their family, who arrived with cake.
Jenny (85) and George (83) were planning on celebrating their long-lasting romance quietly – Mr Bremner, a former lorry driver, had treated his wife to some nice flowers.
Mrs Bremner, a former home help in Culbokie, said: “It was a very nice surprise indeed – 60 years is a long time. It was very kind of them all to come.”
The pair have been together for 63 years in total but were married on August 2, 1957.
“I just got my wife some flowers and things because she didn’t want anything special. Our family brought us a nice cake and we all had tea,” Mr Bremner said.
“The secret to a happy marriage? No secrets, that’s the secret.
“Just work together and look after your family and they will look after you.”
Mr and Mrs Bremner have lived in their home in Dingwall Place for 56 years. Before that they lived with Mr Bremner’s family in a cottage in Culbokie. They have two sons and a daughter.
