Going for a one-party state?

SIR Introducing PR "would end Labour's one-party state", SNP spokesman Kenneth Gibson said (November 1998), welcoming the McIntosh Commission report which led to our current multimember local authority wards.

Now, a few short years later, the SNP appears to be trying to set up its own one-party state here in the Highlands.

Both the SNP and the Liberal-Democrats have put up candidates in the forthcoming Black Isle ward by-election.

Why do these parties want another councillor in the Black Isle? They already have one! Two would go against the principles of proportional representation completely.

The Lib-Dems, who campaigned so long for PR, should be particularly ashamed of themselves.
