MILLIONS of TV viewers will next week discover whether a talented Wester Ross-based chef has the right ingredients to lay on the ultimate street party.
Jason Bruno Birkbeck, in charge of eats at the award-winning hotel, The Torridon, is amongst the top chefs vying to create the perfect meal for the Peoples Banquet, a nationwide challenge run as part of the BBC 2 series, Great British Menu.
The challenge is to cook for the ultimate street party as part of a campaign to get people excited about cooking and eating with their neighbours.
If Bruno makes it to the final, his dishes will be paraded down the ancient cobbled streets of Leadenhall Market in London to about 100 expectant guests.
Before that, he needs to impress a panel of judges and surpass the mouth-watering offerings of his peers.
The series is working with The Big Lunch, a Big Lottery funded community street party initiative.
Last year, the best part of a million people took part in a nationwide one day event that encourages people to cook and eat with their neighbours. Inspired by this, the Great British Menu chefs are battling to create spectacular sharing dishes, platters that will get everyone talking, proving food has the power to bring us all together for the best street party ever.
On Sunday, June 5 Big Lunch street parties will be held all over the country and fans of Great British Menu will be able, if they wish, to make home-cooked versions of the winning chefs dishes for street parties in their own neighbourhoods.
Torridon proprietor, Dan Bristow-Rose said yesterday, Since he joined us about a year ago, Brunos culinary talents have seen the hotels restaurant awarded three AA rosettes. We plan to build on this industry success to ensure The Torridon becomes one of Scotlands top food destinations.
Next weeks programmes are broadcast at 6.30pm Monday to Friday on BBC 2.
